The Bible Alive and Active-

A Living Guide and a Working Entity

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword...”

Jesus promised us abundant life in Him, an overflowing, beyond measure life. It wasn’t just a random phrase. When Jesus said something, He had a reason and a plan. Well, He had a plan for us to live out this abundant life. Part of the plan was a set of tools and equipment given to us to live the life He desired for us.

One of the greatest tools He has given us to live abundantly is His Word, the Bible. It is our instruction manual, our guide for everything we need in life.  The Bible says of itself that it is living and active. Something alive has existence, being. It goes on and is applicable from generation to generation. It doesn’t die. It is real. Something active has energy and produces or works. The Bible can do something in us, change us, work in us. The Bible will always be relevant and meaningful because it is alive, and it will always do something in us because it is active. It can guide us, change us, mold us, comfort us, transform us. Our part is to open it and use it.

Tim and I took a trip to Spain before we had kids. One of the places we visited was Toledo. It is a walled city known for its gold work and sword making. We were walking up the streets to the cathedral and looking in the shop windows on the way. In one shop I saw a sword that had two blades on it. Right away I exclaimed, "Hey, Tim, look! A double-edged sword, like in the Bible." He started laughing at me,"That is not a double-edged sword. A double edged sword is sharp on both sides of the blade." I learned that day that a double-edged sword is more effective weapon. It takes more skill to make, and costs more. It is more valuable. Just like the Bible. It is a valuable weapon and tool for our life.

Psalm 119: 130 "The unfolding of Thy word gives light; It gives understanding to the simple"

My desire is to share in very practical ways how God has made the Bible Alive for me, and how God made the Bible Active in my life, a real thing to use. Knowledge means nothing if we don't use it. I have come to see that in every problem or circumstance the more I seek God’s Word, the better I am able to deal with anything that comes my way. The more I know and apply God’s Word to my life, the better I can see ahead and avoid problems. His Word makes my life abundant!

I can’t wait to share with you ideas, charts, templates, curriculum, and resources that the Bible may be Alive and Active in your life so that you may live abundant days for His glory and your good!
